Marine Façade passenger traffic up 2% in 2012
Passenger traffic at sea passenger port of St. Petersburg "Marine Façade" in 2012 increased by 2% year-over-year to 422,664 people (226 arrivals, five of them - Christmas cruises), the passenger terminal authority told PortNews.
Of the total number of passengers arriving on ferries and cruise ships to St. Petersburg, 80% of passengers were handled at Marine Façade.
“Passengers flow growth was driven by higher average capacity of the vessel. The global trend in the cruise market is the increase in the capacity of cruise ships," Marine Façade COO Andrei Fedorov said.
JSC Passenger Port St. Petersburg "Marine Façade" is in the ownership of the city of St. Petersburg and is the largest sea port in Russia. Construction of Marine Façade began in 2006. The port can accommodate cruise and ferry ships of up to 311 m and a draft of up to 9 m. The length and depth of new access channels - 10 km, 11 m, accordingly. The port operates seven piers. The quay wall length - 2171.06 m. In 2011, passenger traffic at Marine Façade was 405,200 people.
