Maersk retrofits 10 boxships in Qingdao
Maersk Line is upgrading the bulbous bows of 10 containerships at Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry in China. The pilot project is to help the Danish operator to reduce its fuel consumption while slow steaming, SinoShipNews reports.
The shipyard is to upgrade the bows for five Boston-class containerships and five Stepnica-class vessels throughout next year. The company estimates that around 1-2% of fuel consumption can be saved from a change of bulbous bow.
