Prosecutor’s Office finds no fault in actions of Vostochny Port management
Negotiations of the top management of JSC Vostochny Port with the stevedore company’s workers, who had announced a walkout a day before, were held on December 26. The dispute was attended by Nakhodka Transport Prosecutor Andrei Gorelov, acting as a mediator.
The law enforcement agency official said that the Vostochny Port managers are acting within the law, the Vostochny Port press release said.
The management implementing streamlining the JSC Vostochny Port business, announced downsizing as from 2013 but, according to Managing Director of Vostochny Port Anatoly Lazarev, the company vowed to find jobs for all redundant workers, to pay them annual allowance and bonuses for long service.
However, the workers who fell under job cuts, primarily women who were engaged in cleaning of the territory, rejected the offer proposed by the management of JSC Vostochny Port. They announced a protest action demanding to reinstate them in their former jobs, the Prosecutor’s Office said.
Yesterday, Managing Director Anatoly Lazarev said at the meeting with employees that the job cuts was a necessary step in the revamping of the management process. He also called on the protesters to stop the strike.
The meeting approved the decision to suspend the protest action and continue the dialogue with the Vostochny Port top management. Today, Anatoly Lazarev met with two vice-governors of the Primorsky Territory S. Sidorov and A. Kostenko, who are closely monitoring the situation.
