Dmitri Smirnov takes the post of RF Marine Rescue Service
From February 1, 2013, Dmitri Smirnov, former head of Baltic Basin Emergency and Rescue Department, takes the post of Russia’s State Marine Emergency Rescue Service (Gosmorspassluzhba). As PortNews IAA learnt from Smirnov, the headquarters of Gosmorspassluzhba will be located in Moscow.
Gosmorspassluzhba of Russia was set up in 1956. Basin Emergency and Rescue Departments first appeared in January 1957. The Service has undergone a number of structural and organizational changes over its history.
As of today it is a system of state organizations aimed to search and rescue seafarers in distress, help disabled vessels, respond oil spills in the sea, service oil production platforms etc.
State Marine Emergency Rescue Service of Russia is an organization responsible for implementation of Russia’s obligations in compliance with conventions, regional and international bilateral agreements.
