Throughput of Vostochny Port OJSC up 15% to 1.52 mln t in Jan’13
In January 2013, throughput of Vostochny Port OJSC (Primorsk territory) amounted to 1,527,400 tons, which is a 15-pct growth against the previous reporting year, the stevedore’s press center informs.
“We have managed to boost unloading volumes owing to the technological advancement of handling facilities operation in winter period,” remarks Anatoli Lazarev, Managing Director of Vostochny Port OJSC. – We increased the capacity of defrosting facilities to 80 open-top wagons. Besides, we have installed wind shelters with infrared radiators preventing coal from cooling before discharge to wagon dump. This kind of equipment is not yet being used by other sea operators in Primorsk territory.”
The company’s main cargo is coal produced in Kuzbass. Export coal currently accounts for 98.5% of the company’s total cargo throughput with coastal trade coal standing for less than 1.5% and other cargoes – for 0.01%.
JSC Vostochny Port is the major stevedore company of Russia specializing in coal transshipment. The company’s assets include a Specialized Coal Terminal with conveyer equipment system and railcar unloading station and a Universal Handling Terminal which specializes in clamshell coal handling.
Annual capacity of Specialized Coal Terminal is 14.2 mln tons. In January the terminal handled 1,272,400 tons of coal (up 17.1%, year-on-year).
Annual capacity of Universal Handling Terminal is 3 mln tons. In January 2013, it handled 255,000 tons of cargo (up 5.5%, year-on-year).
