Finland determined to build LNG bunkering terminals in the Gulf of Finland
Finland is determined to build a number of terminals for bunkering vessels with liquefied natural gas (LNG) on the shore of the Gulf of Finland, Riitta Kajatkari, Development Director of Port of Hamina-Kotka, said when answering the question of PortNews reporter at the conference-dialogue “Eco-Port: prosperity strategies” held in St. Petersburg.
“We have plans of building LNG terminals on the shore of the Gulf of Finland but their specific location has not been determined yet. However, I am sure they will be built,” Riitta Kajatkari said.
She also added that a number of measures are being implemented within the framework of the policy on hazardous emission reduction in the port of Hamina-Kotka: equipment of berths with power supply systems for operation of vessels during their stay in the port, optimization of truck traffic in the ports and other activities.
We remind that new 0.1-pct ship fuel sulfur limits come into effect from 2015 in the Baltic Sea.
