Venlo opens service point for reefer containers
In Venlo a service point has opened for the storage, cleaning and inspection of reefer containers. In this way the Venlo region is anticipating the rise of the reefer container in the frozen and refrigerated transport sector, said in a media release.
Globally, the use of reefer containers is increasing by 3% a year, claims Seacon Logistics, one of the parties behind the service point. In 2011, 91 million tonnes of goods were transported in reefer containers and this quantity is set to increase steadily in the coming years, according to the company. Not only is the supply of temperature-controlled cargo rising, but this cargo is also being transported increasingly in containers rather than in special reefer ships.
Also involved in the service point are stevedoring company TCT Venlo (ECT), Truckwash Freshpark and Fresh Park Venlo. Another purpose of the new facility is to improve the combination of import and export cargo between the large seaports and the European hinterland, with Venlo as the hub.
