Throughput of Vyborg port up 29% to 93,000 tons in Jan’13
In January 2013, the port of Vyborg boosted its throughput by 29%, year-on-year, to 93,000 tons.
According to the Administration of Big Port St. Petersburg, transshipment of dry bulk cargo boosted by 73% to 80,500 tons while that of general cargo fell 3.8 times to 5,500 tons. In the accounting period, the port handled 2,400 tons of liquid bulk cargo (the same volume as in Jan’12). Coal transshipment increased 2.9 times to 26,700 tons, mineral fertilizers – by 46% to 50,100 tons.
The port of Vyborg was founded in 1293 on the crossroads of waterways between Finnish Gulf and navigable system of the Saimaa lakes and the Vuoksa river. There are 13 berths in the port now (with total length of 1,480 running meters). They stretch along the coastline of the Vyborg Bay. In 2012, the port’s throughput increased by 33% to 1,462,400 tons.
