NYK reshuffles, updates its Asian services
Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line) has announced it will restructure its services connecting Japan, Thailand and India. After the restructure, NYK’s existing HLS Service will be delinked at Laem Chabang, forming a Japan–Thailand shuttle service (LNS) and Thailand–India shuttle service (New HLS), the Japanese carrier’s press release said.
NYK will thus be able to provide a competitive and stable service from Thailand to India and Pakistan, where demand is growing, with a new direct call to the port of Karachi. NYK will also continue its commitment to Japan–India cargo through transshipment via Singapore.
Japan–Thailand will be covered by the LNS service, which will continue to provide a competitive service, while transit time between Japan and Ho Chi Minh will be improved after the city is included in both the southbound and northbound LNS service.
Besides, NYK has announced the upgrade of its Japan–Indonesia and Japan–Vietnam services. The new Japan–Indonesia service will allow NYK to cater to cargo moving between Japan and Jakarta. Port rotations in the new PGS-1 and PGS-2 services have been refined to improve the transit time to Jakarta from Japan’s Kanto region (i.e., Tokyo, Yokohama, Kawasaki) and keep competitive the transit time from Japan’s Kansai region (i.e., Kobe, Osaka).
For NYK’s Japan–Vietnam service, Ho Chi Minh and Haiphong will receive direct calls in the new LNS service and VLS service, respectively. In fact, to better meet the needs of customers the VLS service will include calls at the port of Haiphong instead of Cai Lan in North Vietnam. In addition, connections for Japanese exports to Taiwan and North Vietnam from ports in Hokkaido and along the Japan Sea will be greatly improved with the inclusion of Pusan, where goods are often transshipped.
