Ukraine joined the NATO operation Ocean Shield
Ukraine has joined the NATO operation to counter piracy, Ocean Shield. According to UK Government portal, this was announced by the Secretary-General of NATO, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, opening on Friday in Brussels the meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission.
Recall that on February 21-22 Defense Minister Pavlo Lebedev is staying on an official visit to NATO headquarters in Brussels, where he participated in meetings of the NATO-Ukraine Commission and the NATO North Atlantic Council at the level of Defence Ministers.
As officials of the Mission of Ukraine to NATO specified, this agreement formalizes the status of Ukraineas the first partner country, which is involved in the operation Ocean Shield and a single partner country of theAlliance, which is involved in all of its operations.
It is planned that in November, the flagship of the Naval Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces frigateHetman Sagaidachny with ship-based helicopters and a group of Special Forces will participate in the operationOcean Shield.
