Bumi Armada awards conyracts to Nam Cheong for four multi-purpose platform support vessels
Following the Letter of Intent issued to Nam Cheong Dockyard Sdn Bhd (“NCD”) on 20 June 2012 for four Multi-Purpose Platform Support Vessels (“MPSV”) plus the option of another four , Armada Offshore MPSV Limited has entered into four contracts to purchase four units of DP2*diesel-electric MPSVs with Nam Cheong International Ltd (“NCIL”) under the company’s newbuild programme – Steel on Water 2 (“SOW 2”). The total value of the contracts is approximately USD130 million (excluding owner furnished equipment), the company reports.
Each MPSV will be 88.8 metres long, have 5,000 deadweight tonnes of cargo capacity, diesel -electric propulsion , built to Comfort Class , SPS compliant , fire fighting class 1 and enabled for a 100 tonne heave compensated crane, helideck, ROV*facility and moon pool. All four MPSVs will have DP2*capability to support offshore deepwater activities with multi-purpose functions of transporting cargo (such as fresh water, diesel, bulk cement, liquid mud, drilling chemicals and deck cargo), oil recovery and be on standby/rescue work. In addition, each vessel will have accommodation for a total of 60 personnel on board.

waters coupled with increased safety and operational requirements post -Macondo , there is a corresponding increase in demand for larger, safer, fuel -
efficient and technically -more sophisticated deepwater vessels. “These 4 vessels are part of our OSV expansion programme, SOW 2, that will spearhead development of a greener, cleaner, safer and more efficient fleet
for Bumi Armada. This newbuild programme will see Bumi Armada yet again leading the industry in Malaysia through the building and owning of cutting -edge MPSVs, the first of its kind in Malaysia. Bumi Armada’s SOW2 programme will ensure that the company remains knots ahead of the rest .”
