Railway tariffs on cargo transportation to ports to rise 10.7% - 10.9% in 2007

Tariffs for export cargo, which is transported by railway to the ports will rise by 10.7% - 10.9%, other freight transportation tariffs will rise about 8.5 % according to the forecasts. This information has been told by Evgeny Mikhailov, director of tax department of the Economic Development Ministry, Reuters reports according to ABN. Freight transportation tariffs increased by 7.5% in 2006.

The tariffs will be discussed at the session of the Federal Tariff Service on the coming Saturday. RZD OJSC tries to re-orient cargo flow from seaports to land border crossings trough increase of tariffs for cargo transportation to ports without changing tariffs for transportation via land border crossings.
Today tariffs for transportation via land border crossings are 1.7 times as high as those for cargo transportation to ports. In 2006, tariffs for cargo transportation to ports grew by 12.8%. Earlier RZD was going to increase them by 10.4%, in 2008 – by 8.8%. By 2009 RZD intends to decrease the difference to 12%.
