Latvia’s railway transportation down 10.7% in 11M06

Latvijas dzelzcels (Latvian railway) transported 44.707 million tons of cargo in January-November 2006 (-10.7% against year-on-year result), RZD-Partner reports. Import makes the largest part of railway transportation – 36.005 million tons (-11.4% against 2005), including 31.38 million tons via Latvian ports (-13.3%). Land transit totaled 4.49 million tons (-12.1%), internal transportation – 2.27 million tons (-8.2%), export cargo – 1.942 million tons (+7.1%), including 1.205 million tons of cargo transported via port stations (+35.7%).

Oil and oil products make the largest share of railway transportation – 16.007 million tons (-16.8%), coal – 13.404 million tons (-6.8%) and mineral fertilizers – 4.877 million tons (-23.5%). In November Latvian railway carried 3.543 million tons of cargo (-21.2% compared to November 2005). Oil and oil products – 1.1 million tons (-32.7%), coal - 881 thou tons (-33.1%).
