In January-July, the port of Gdansk (Poland) handled 16,410,385 tonnes of cargo (+26.8%, year-on-year), the port authority says.
Transshipment of grain cargo surged by 26.9% to 622,253 tonnes, general cargo and timber – up by 20.8% to 6,064,725 tonnes, other bulk cargo (aggregates, sulphur, ore) – down by 48% to 1,419,592 tonnes, coal – up 4.1 times to 2,919,945 tonnes, liquid bulk cargo – up 34.6% to 5,383,870 tonnes.
The port of Gdansk is a major international transportation hub situated in the central part of the southern Baltic coast. Besides handling bulk cargoes (oil, coal, metal ores) the port provides a number of line services linking it with the ports of the Baltic Sea and Western Europe (primarily ferry, construction and ro-ro lines).
