In the 11-month period of 2006 the port of Riga (Latvia) transshipped 23.516 million tons of cargo (+5.5% against year-on-year result) RZD-Partner reports. The figure includes 14.443 million tons of dry bulk cargo (-1.3%) including 10.089 million tons of coal (+2.6%), 1.255 million tons of chemical cargo, mostly mineral fertilizers (+6.5%), 1.135 million tons of wood chip (+7.1%). Transshipment of general cargo decreased by 19.6% to 4.611 million tons including 2.731 million tons of timber (-23.2%), 1.378 million tons of container cargo (-0.8%). Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo grew by 44.3% to 4.463 million tons including 4.412 million tons of oil products (+49.3%).
Cargo turnover of Strek, the largest stevedoring company of the port of Riga, grew by 19.5% to 4.9 million tons, of Rigas centralais terminals – fell by 1.3% to 4.383 million tons; LaCon – decreased by 24.7% to 1.636 million tons. In 2005 cargo turnover of Riga port totaled 24.429 million tons.
