Sabetta port potential is 70 mln t per year including dry cargo, says Governor of Yamal-Nenets region

The potential of port Sabetta (Yamal) is estimated at 70 mln t per year, IAA PortNews journalist cites Dmitry Kobylkin, Governor of Yamal-Nenets autonomous region, as saying at the III International Forum “Arctic: present and future”.

“Port Sabetta is certainly intended for liquefied natural gas but dry cargo potential is very high. I think the potential estimated at 70 mln t is not a limit for the port,” the Governor says.

The port is being built within the framework of Yamal LNG project.

Yamal LNG project envisages the construction of an LNG plant with annual capacity of 16.5 million tonnes per annum based on the feedstock resources of the South-Tambeyskoye field. According to the PRMS reserve standards, the proven and probable reserves of the South-Tambeyskoye field as of 31 December 2012 were appraised at 907 billion cubic meters of natural gas. The Project also requires the construction of transport infrastructure including a sea-port and an airport located at Sabetta (north-east of the Yamal Peninsula). Yamal LNG is currently owned by NOVATEK and TOTAL.
