United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) and Northern (Arctic) Federal University (NarFU) on December 17, 2013 introduced at the First Annual National Exhibition "VUZPROMEXPO-2013" a joint project of innovative new propulsion systems for ice-class vessels, the USC announced on Tuesday.
The project was a result of joint scientific and technological efforts of USC and NArFU within the program of innovative development of corporations and the creation of innovative products.
The new propulsion solutions for icebreaking ships will be designed and manufactured at Zvezdochka Shipyard, the USC said.
The two companies are set to continue cooperation for further development of innovative marine equipment technologies.
United Shipbuilding Corporation was founded in 2007 as a 100-percent state-owned group of companies. The Corp. consolidates about 70% of the domestic shipbuilding industry and incorporates three regional shipbuilding centers, nine engineering and design offices and 39 dockyards. The Corp’s largest shipbuilding assets include Kaliningrad-based JSC Yantar Shipyard, JSC Admiralty Shipyards (St. Petersburg), JSC PA Sevmash (Severodvinsk), JSC DVZ Zvezda (Vladivostok) and Baltic Shipyard Besides, UCS holds a 50% stake in Arctech Helsinki Shipyard, a joint venture with STX Finland Cruise Oy. The Group builds ships for Russian customers and exports its products to 20 countries.
The Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after Lomonosov was established in 2010 on the basis of Arkhangelsk State Technical University (ASTU) with focus on development of innovative solutions for exploration of the Russian North and Arctic.
