According to Ukraine’s State Statistics Bureau, cargo transportation by Ukraine’s water transport totaled 18.897 million tons in January-October (+5.8% or +1.03 million tons, year-on-year), RZD-Partner reports. In 2005 the dynamics was +4.8% (+0.81 million tons). The growth is attributed to growing volume s of internal transportation, which covers 47.3% of total water transportation in Ukraine (against 43.8% in 2005). This sector demonstrated a 11.7% growth in 2006 and 0.8% decrease a year ago.
International transportation fell by -1% (-0.14 million tons, to 9.96 million tons, which covers 52.7% of total cargo transported by water). In 2005 the dynamics was –2.8%, which made 56.2% of total water transportation.
Sea transportation grew by 0.4% (+29 thou tons, to 7.272 million tons), including +1.2 % in October against October 2005 (to 719 thou tons). In 2005 the dynamics was -0.7%, including -11.7% in October, year-on-year. This growth is attributed to growing volumes of coastal trade cargo, while international transportation decreased by 2%.
