The 301st flood has been reported in St. Petersburg since the foundation of the city.
The Neva River was up 190 centimetres above the normal level at 06:00 Moscow time this Friday, a source at the local meteorological centre told Itar-Tass.
A cyclone from Scandinavia caused the flood. It brought fierce winds that caused a storm in the Gulf of Finland. The wind was up to 22-26 metres a second in the gulf and 19-21 metres a second in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region.
Embankments are partially inundated in the Petrogradsky district and on the Krestovsky and Kammeny islands. It has impeded the traffic. Trolleybus electric lines were damaged and trees fell in some districts.
