The group, which also operates to Central American and Caribbean ports, said that rates will rise from 1 January 2007, not 1 February as announced in September. It said: “Having reviewed further current market conditions, member lines have decided to bring forward the next rate restoration for the northbound trade from the west coast of South America to North Europe”.
Rates for dry cargo will increase by $200 per teu and $300 for a forty-foot box (feu). Tariffs were increased by $250 per teu in November. A peak season surcharge will be applied to reefer cargo at $400 per feu from 15 January to 31 May next year.
Members are CMA CGM, CSAV, Hamburg Sud, Hapag-Lloyd, K Line and Container Cargo Lines.
