Shipping in Russia needs additional measures of state support, IAA PortNews journalists cites Deputy Transport Minister Victor Olersky as saying at the joint meeting of the Board and the Public Council of Federal Marine and River Transport Agency (Rosmorrechflot) held on June 4, 2014.
According to him, it is necessitated by long distances and adverse climatic conditions of the country.
Victor Olersky says state support is primarily needed for inland water way shipping, especially for passenger shipping and that related to the northern territory supplies.
Federal Law No 305 on support of Russian shipbuilding which came into effect in November 2011 created a favorable economic background for ship owners willing to place orders with the domestic shipyards.
In December 2012, RF Government approved the state programme of the Russian Federation “Development of shipbuilding in 2013-2030” with a State Support sub-programme aimed at creation of utilization funds for certain groups of vessels (fishing, passenger ships of inland shipping) to be implement education in 2021-2030.
