Former Greek owned ferry “Dorius” (YB – 1989) renamed “Olympiada” that arrived in the Kerch Strait yesterday July 16, is preparing for her first test trip in the framework of acceptance / handover trials, the Ministry of Transportation said.
The Olympiada will dock at the passenger pier of port of Kavkaz, ETA 06:00 pm (MSK), where the ferry will take on board passengers and cars.
The extra ferry together with already plying "Jonas" is expected to help reduce the waiting time for tourists on cars and increase the capacity of the ferry line.
The Ministry said that expansion of passenger fleet with additional ferry "Olympiada" will allow cruise operators to carry during the season (June - October) some 3 million passengers in both directions.
The Ministry of Transport also offers car drivers to take public transport due to the Kerch ferry line congestion.
Krasnodar Krai, Russia based Port Kavkaz is the terminal of the railroad and car Kerch Strait ferry line connecting Krasnodar Krai with the Crimea. The port can accommodate vessels of 130 meters in length, 14.5 meters in breadth and with draft up to 5 meters.
