In June 2014, Konecranes received a major order from Hyundai Heavy Industries Co Ltd (HHI), the world's biggest shipbuilder and a leading industrial plant EPC contractor, the company said in its press release. The order includes 238 monorails with CXT hoists, jib cranes and chain blocks that will be installed in the Shuqaiq Steam Power Plant in Saudi Arabia.
Crane deliveries will start in February 2015 and end in February 2016. The parties have agreed not to disclose the value of the order. HHI is constructing the 2,640 MW Shuqaiq Steam Power Plant for Saudi Electricity Company. The oil-fired steam power plant, located approximately 580 km south of Jeddah and 135 km north of Jazan, will be operational in 2017.
Upon completion, the steam power plant will be able to produce enough electricity for about 2 million people. Konecranes delivery to HHI will include 135 electric wire rope hoists, 2 explosion proof wire rope hoists, 81 manual chain blocks, 12 pillar jib cranes with wire rope hoists, and 8 monorail beams. The lifting capacity of the equipment is ranging from 0.5 to 30 tons. The equipment will mainly be used for maintenance work in various locations in the power plant complex.
Konecranes has a good reputation in Middle East, which helped us in this project, says T K Mak, Konecranes General Manager, Industrial Cranes, Southeast Asia. The ordered Konecranes equipment, especially the CXT electric wire rope hoists are excellent lifting solutions in e.g. the power, general manufacturing, automotive, and paper industries. In these industries the compact CXT means saving space, maximizing the actual working area in the customer's facility and optimizing productivity.
