Cargo volumes handled at the terminals of JSC Taganrog Commercial Seaport" (JSC TCSP, part of UCL Holding) in the first half of the year totaled 563,000 tonnes, which is 5% lower from the same period 2013, the UCL group press release said.
Cargo traffic decline is attributed primarily to the difficult weather conditions in the region in the winter shipping season.
The Group reports a 3% drop in the segment of bulk cargo, to 272,000 tonnes. In particular, handling of coal at the port's terminal fell 14% to 212,000 tonnes, while grain exports in the six-month period soared threefold year-on-year to 46,000 tonnes.
Shipments of general cargo rose by 40% to 243,000 tonnes, metals volume soared by 80% to 166,000 tonnes. Handling of pipes increased by two times to 19,000 tonnes.
Liquid cargo volumes shrank by threefold to 48,000 tonnes.
Container traffic in the reporting period amounted to 3,400 TEUs.
Exports accounted for 87% (487,000 tonnes) of half-year throughput, imports - 13% (72,000 tonnes).
During the reporting period the company handled 6,961 rail car and 151 ships.
JSC Taganrog Commercial Seaport (part of UCL Port, a stevedoring division of international transport group UCL Holding) is the major stevedore, operating at Berths No 1-5, 7, 8 in the port of Taganrog based in Russia's southern Rostov region. In 2013 throughput of "TCSP" reached 1.4 million tonnes.
