Traffic jam at terminals of Kerch ferry line eased up

Urgent measures have eased up traffic congestion at the terminals of the Kerch cargo / passenger ferry line. The number of vehicles on the Port Krym-Port Kavkaz service have been reduced by nearly 1,000 cars, the line transport manager United Transport Directorate said.

A traffic duty dispatcher said there were some 1600 vehicles at the Port Kavkaz terminal waiting their turn to roll onto the ferry, and about ten cars in the Port Krym (Crimea). For the previous day the ferry line vessels have transported about 3,500 cars and 3,527 passengers.

Overall, between 06:00pm July 17 and 10:00am July 18 the ferries made 42 voyages in both directions.

UTD said there five ferries, including a newly acquired Olympiada and her sister ship Jonas, were plying across the Kerch Strait overnight. The vessels have made eight voyages and carried in both directions about 900 vehicles / 4,000 passengers.

"However, the number of cars arriving at the terminals is still the same. Maximum stopover time is up to 30 hours," the United Transport Directorate said.
