Maersk divides Odense Shipyard in two

A.P. Moller-Maersk said today it will reorganize the corporate structure of the Odense Steel Shipyard by dividing it into two divisions in preparation for selling the Lindø Industrial Park and closing the Lindø Shipyard.
The Danish group said it is dividing the organization into the two divisions because plans for the two divisions need to be handled differently, which is “best done in two separate organizations.”
The group said the shipyard’s managing director, Finn Buus Nielsen, has decided to resign from his position as of Nov. 1 “allowing other resources to lead Odense Steel Shipyard in the time ahead.”
Moller-Maersk said the Lindø Industrial Park will be operated as an independent division where FAYARD (formerly known as Fredericia Shipyard) currently rent facilities.
The Lindø Shipyard will be closed down gradually until the final orders have been delivered in February 2012.
Odense Steel Shipyard Ltd. A/S will continue as a company but will be the holding company for the two independent divisions.
Moller-Maersk has named the shipyard’s current CFO, Peter Jann Nielsen, the new managing director of the holding company.
Nielsen will be in charge of the overall coordination of the Moller Maersk group and relations with the board of directors.
Steen Schougaard Christensen will be responsible for the operation of Lindø Shipyard, while Michael Nymark Hansen will be responsible for the operation of Lindø Industrial Park.
They both come from positions within Odense Steel Shipyard. Steen Schougaard Christensen held a position as head of production and Michael Nymark Hansen was responsible for the development of Lindø Industrial Park.
