Kerch ferry line traffic reaches 980,000 passengers, 210,000 vehicles

Vessels deployed on the the Kerch ferry line have transported between April and July 23, 2014 980,000 passengers (over 120 of them with a multimodal "single ticket") and 210,000 cars, the United Transport Directorate said.

Andrei Zhukov, general director of United Transport Directorate told the first Crimean Transport Forum in Alushta that the Novorossiysk – Feodosia freight ferry service transported 18,000 trucks. Between May 1 and July 20, 2014 joint high speed vesselы "Sochi-1" and "2-Sochi" carried 9,564 passengers.

The ferry service passenger and freight throughput was increased 22,000 passengers (incl. 4,500 single tickets) and more than 4,000 autos thanks to deployment of additional ferries, the pier infrastructure overhaul, separation of passenger and freight traffic, deployment of catamarans, multimodal transportation on a"single" ticket, increasing from 18 to 38 round trips a day.

"We've done a great job, but we still have a lot to do to boost cargo and passenger capacity of the ports in Russia and the Crimea and enhance passenger services", said Zhukov.

The first Crimea Transport Forum was held in Alushta, July 24 – 25. The event was attended by the heads of the federal and regional state agencies and private businesses, trucking companies and rail operators, cargo owners and carriers.

The United Transport Directorate was established to manage and regulate the freight and passenger transportation, to oversee the design, construction and overhaul of intermodal facilities infrastructure in the Azov-Black Sea basin, including road, air, railways, maritime and river transport.
