Throughput of port Liepaja up 7.2% to 2.977 mln t in Jan-July’14
In January-July 2014, the port of Liepaja (Latvia) handled 2.977 mln t of cargo (+7.2%, year-on-year), IAA PortNews was informed by the port authority. Transshipment of grain climbed almost 1.6 times to 1.437 mln t, construction materials – by 19% to 308,900 t, timber – fell by 18% to 263,700 t.
The port’s container throughput declined by 27% to 2,177 TEUs. Transshipment of ro-ro cargo climbed by 12% to 20,938. Passenger turnover delclined by 3% to 24,630 persons. The number of calls climbed by 3% to 818.
The port of Liepaja is the third busiest port of Latvia. Half of its turnover is formed by oil products and dry loose cargo from CIS countries, mainly Belarus. In 2013, the port of Liepaja handled 4.84 mln tonnes of cargo.
