Admiral Vladimirsky research ship leaves Kronshtadt for expedition (photo)
The Admiral Vladimirsky oceanographic research ship has set sail for a scientific expedition from Kronshtadt (Saint-Petersburg), says the press center of the city’s Legislative Assembly. The ceremony was attended by Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of Saint-Petersburg Vycheslav Makarov, Acting Governor of Saint-Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko, RF Navy Commander Admiral Victor Chirkov, Chief Federal Inspector in Saint-Petersburg Victor Minenko.
The Admiral Vladimirsky was built in 1975 for scientific research. She can accommodate up to 80 passengers with the crew numbering 170. The round-the-world voyage will last for more than 4 months. The ship will cover 24,670 nautical miles, call at five Russia and four foreign ports. During the transition the vessel will be conducting oceanographic research, collecting information for correction of nautical charts, guidelines and manuals for navigation, and will check radio navigation systems.
