Port of Rotterdam shortlisted for ESPO Award
An international commission of experts has shortlisted the Port of Rotterdam as one of five finalists, which are competing for the award of the Association ESPO (European Sea Ports Organisation). This year's ESPO award for the most environmental friendly European ports is entering to its sixth edition, Port of Rotterdam said in its press release.
Twenty ports applied to the call for proposals. Besides the Port of Rotterdam Luka Koper from Slovenia, the Spanish port of Huelva, Lisbon and Marseille shortlisted finalists. According to ESPO, the five shortlisted ports prove to be concerned about the way they interact with their neighbours. These ports clearly demonstrate they respect the people who live close to them and carry responsibility towards the environment they work in.
The ESPO Award will be officially handed out during the ceremony which will be held on November 4, 2014 in Brussels.
The Port of Rotterdam participates with its We-nose network. This unique air monitoring system is used to optimize the living and working environment. A network of nearly one hundred electronic noses planned to be expanded to 300 e-noses by 2016, constantly monitors changes in air composition throughout the port.
