Import substitution of major units for Russian warships’ propulsion plants will be ensured by early 2017
Import substitution of major units for Russian warships’ propulsion plants will be ensured by early 2017, IAA PortNews journalist cites Aleksei Rakhmanov, head of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, as saying at the press conference dedicated to his 100-day long period of office.
According to him, this task is assigned to Rybinsk-based enterprise Saturn which will manufacture turbines or their units.
“We hope that in early 2017 first turbines will be tested by facilities yet to be created in Rybinsk and we can start integrating them into the naval ships”, Aleksei Rakhmanov said.
Before 2017, USC will strive to get earlier ordered and paid foreign units and components. In case of disrupted supplies domestic manufacturers will have to modify the ships under construction, USC head added.
United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC OJSC) is the largest shipbuilding company in Russia. It was set up in 2007 with 100% federal ownership. The holding comprises 60 companies and organizations (major shipbuilding and shiprepairing companies as well as leading design bureaus). Currently, USC consolidates about 80% of the domestic shipbuilding complex. The Russian market is the main focus of the state corporation though it also exports its products to 20 countries worldwide.
