Maersk Line has imposed a rate restoration this month due to the severe congestion at Chittagong port, a situation, which the company says "continues unabated". A company statement explained that feeder operators at the port "were not in a position to maintain their service based on present rate structure as their costs were increasing daily".
"As an immediate solution to the severe congestion, they have implemented a Rate Restoration," the statement added.
The shipping line said it had to take such action and collect the Chittagong feeder charge at an additional US$200 per TEU.
