Maersk Supply orders four A-class units

Maersk Supply Service has signed up with Volkswerft Stralsund GmbH for four ships of the A-class for delivery from the middle of 2009. The ships will be a modernized version of the Maersk Achiever, which was delivered in 2004. The contracts came in handy as there will be no orders for containerships from 2009, at least not from A.P. Møller-Mærsk. The A-class vessels are on 5,100 DWT, with some 23,480 horsepowers from the engineplant, developing around 280 tons of bollard pull. They will be fitted with Caterpillar (MaK) engines. There is also an option for further two units.
The second ship in the A-class, the Mærsk Attender, will arrive at Fredericia Shipyard on January 12, 2007, to start the big conversion to a craned offshore vessel. Originally the conversion should have started in September, but the hot autumn market made Maersk Supply Service to hold the vessel in work.
