RF Ministry of Transport thinks it is necessary to extend the validity period of the Government Decree No 383 (dated May 22, 2008) “On Approving the Rules of Granting Subsidies to Russian Transport Companies and Shipping Lines to Compensate for Part of the Cost of Interest on Loans Obtained from Russian Lending Institutions in 2008-2010 to Purchase Civilian Vessels Built at Russian Shipyards as well as lease payments under lease contracts concluded in 2008-2010 with Russian leasing companies to acquire civilian vessels built at Russian shipyards”, IAA PortNews refers to Victor Olersky, deputy Transport Minister of Russia, as saying at the general meeting of Russian Chamber of Shipping
“We believe the state should undertake obligations for longer periods, 8-10 years. Then it would encourage business for fleet renovation”, the official said.
According to Boris Kabakov, acting Director of the Shipbuilding Industry and Marine Equipment Department at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the allocations made by the Ministry under the Decree cover the period up to 2017 while the document covers shipbuilding contracts signed before and through 2014. “The deficit for 2015 is RUB 1.65 bln. The Ministry of Industry and Trade is making efforts to cover it through virement of expenditures”, Boris Kabakov said. He also reminded that the Decree allowed for building some 80 at Russian shipyards for Russian companies.
