DP World announced that on 4 March, 2015 the Company experienced a fire in one container at its terminal in Vancouver, Canada, at 13.15 local time. The fire has now been extinguished, by Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services, and all associated smoke has dissipated. Following a risk assessment, the affected container was deemed safe to open by the relevant authorities.
The Hazmat team, supported by Vancouver Fire and Rescue, have examined the interior contents, which consisted of black ash. The contents are being removed. An Occupational Hygienist is on - site to assess the necessary measures which may be required to minimise health and safety impact of the fire.
Following confirmation from the Occupational Hygenist that all equipment and office space is safe, DP World Vancouver will resume full operations on March 6, 2015. Our primary focus continues to be the safety and well - being of our people, the wider community and the environment. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined; however, we will conduct a full investigation into the incident.
