Dozens of berths in Crimea operate outside the legal environment of Russia, IAA PortNews journalist cites Sergei Saritsky, Head of State Marine and River Supervisory Authority (Gosmorrechnadzor), as saying at the extended meeting of Rosmorrechflot’s Board. According to him, certification of the berths with void documents is very slow.
“This problem is a big ‘headache’ for us. Actually, we should terminate their operation as it is outside the legal environment but this would lead to a social fallout,” Sergei Saritsky said. Harbour Masters of the ports are also concerned about the situation. Nobody knows the state of the berths …. and, de facto, Harbour Master should not let mooring at uncertified berths.”
In February 2015, a working group representing appropriate regulatory authorities was set up to settle the situation.
