Cargo turnover of Russia’s Commercial Seaports up 2.8% in 11M06

Cargo turnover of Russian stevedoring companies grew by 2.8% in January-November 2006 to exceed 383.29 million tons, Association of Commercial Seaports reports. Transshipment of dry cargo remains almost at the level of the previous year  - 159.7 million tons (+0.4%), oil – grew to 223.558 million tons (+4.6%).

As regards dynamics of cargo turnover growth, North-West Basin was a permanent leader through the whole 2006. The region transshipped 174.5 of cargo (+7%, or + 11 million tons) including 67.8 million tons of dry cargo (+3.4%). Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo grew by over 9% to 106.66 million tons. Today, North-West region covers 48% of all oil cargo handled in Russian ports.

Cargo turnover of the Southern Basin has not changed a lot: transshipment of cargo totaled 145.84 million tons including 43.2 million tons of dry cargo (+1.8%, or +749 thou tons) and 102.66 million tons of liquid bulk cargo (+0.2%, or +247 thou tons).

Volume of cargo transshipment decreased in the Far East of Russia by 2.7% to about 63 million tons including 48.7 million tons of dry cargo (-4.5%) and 14.23 million tons of liquid bulk cargo (3.8%).
