In January-March 2015, the port of Liepaja (Latvia) handled 1,365,100 t of cargo (-3.6%, year-on-year), IAA PortNews was informed by the port authority. Transshipment of grain fell by 12.6% to 705,600 t, construction materials – increased by 35.2% to 123,400 t, timber – surged by 64.1% to 162,000 t, oil – dropped by 74.7% to 12,600 t, oil products – declined by 14.2% to 49,500 t.
The port’s container throughput dropped by 18% - to 761 TEUs. Transshipment of ro-ro cargo cargo increased by 3% to 7,460 units. Passenger turnover declined by 5% to 8,119 persons. The number of calls fell by 3% to 346 calls.
The port of Liepaja is the third busiest port of Latvia. Half of its turnover is formed by oil products and dry loose cargo from CIS countries, mainly Belarus. In 2014, the port of Liepaja handled 5.29 mln tonnes of cargo.
