Saint-Petersburg Governor Georgy Poltavchenko has been demonstrated a prototype model of a magnetic levitation cargo transfer platform produced at Aleksandrovsk plant in Pushkin (Leningrad region), press center of the city authorities says.

Anatoly Zaitsev, Head of the Research and Education Center for innovative development of passenger rail transportation, told Georgy Poltavchenko about the opportunities and prospects of transport systems working on magnetic levitation principles. The Governor saw an experimental structure - a platform with a 28-tonne container able to levitate and move. The levitation clearance is 25 mm. The scientists say the load on the platform can be increased up to 80 t. Maximum speed of platform movement is 250 km/h.

Those scientific developments can be used for creation of cargo and passenger transport operating on magnetic levitation principles. Such technologies can also be used for an efficient system of container loading/unloading in ports. The pilot project is intended for port Ust-Luga.
