APEC organises its first edition of the Cold Chain Logistic Seminar
APEC, the international training department of the Antwerp Port Authority, organised its first edition of the Cold Chain Logistic Seminar for professionals in June. For two weeks, the participants were immersed in the end-to-end supply chain of perishables and offered a detailed insight into the key role played by the Port of Antwerp.
The seminar had a rather unique approach: not only was the academic part (given by practitioners) alternated with on-site visits to the dedicated port facilities, the participants were also introduced to the cold chain from A to Z and all the activities associated with it. They visited the Belgian Fruit Auction (the beginning of the flow) and Univeg, the organisation responsible for the distribution of fresh vegetables to the supermarkets (the end of the flow). Other aspects that were addressed include global cold chain trade, conventional and container handling, hinterland reefer logistics, European customs and food safety, added value, risk management & insurance, etc.
This first Cold Chain Logistic Seminar attracted interest from Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Ukraine, Morocco, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Africa and the Far East.
