Samskip has been declared the winner of the Regional Carrier of the Year by judges of the prestigious Containerisation Awards, 2015. Considered to be the ultimate accolade for service providers involved in unitised transport, this year's Containerisation Awards were staged at London's Jumeriah Carlton Tower Hotel, Knightsbridge on Thursday June 18, the company said in its press release.
“This award reflects Samskip's significant investments in European rail, shortsea, barge and terminal services over the last 18 months, plus substantial growth in our traffic, but the winner has to demonstrate innovation, not simply market share,” says Richard Beales, Trade Director. “To meet this criterion, Samskip's award entry focused on its close collaboration with leading shippers as part of the Blue Road project, which aims to realise the full potential of the multimodal option by all parties.”
The Blue Road logistics solution, devised in cooperation with shippers Heinz, Mars and Bavaria as part of Netherlands-UK services, involves a pioneering interface of scheduled barge and shortsea operations at the Rotterdam Shortsea Terminal. The result is a through transport solution integrating barge/shortsea traffic moving between the Netherlands and the UK, but also rail services between Rotterdam and Italy.
The goal of the Blue Road solution is to convert 15,000 truck transport journeys previously undertaken by road every year within the Netherlands to the multimodal solution.
“It is, of course, an honour to be recognised in this way by such an eminent group of judges”, says Richard Beales. “Samskip will continue to work together with its clients to deliver the winning formula of cost effective and sustainable transport solutions.”
The Containerisation International Awards are a highlight of the container industry calendar. They recognise achievements by leading forms in the intermodal sector, acknowledging key achievements in the world of container shipping.
