Pilbara Ports Authority (PPA) has released its shipping figures for January 2016, which saw the ports of Dampier and Port Hedland close temporarily during the month due to ex-Tropical Cyclone Stan.
At Port Hedland, the port closed for 48.8 hours, while the outer anchorages were closed for 65.8 hours.
At Dampier, the inner anchorages were closed for 45 hours, the outer anchorages closed for 57 hours and port waters closed for 36 hours.
The Port of Ashburton was not affected by the cyclone.
PPA delivered a total monthly throughput of 46.8 million tonnes (Mt) for the month of January.
The Port of Port Hedland achieved a monthly throughput of 34.1Mt, a decrease of 9% from the same month in 2015.
Iron ore exports for the month totalled 33.7Mt, a decrease of 8% from the same month in the previous year.
Imports totalled 134,000 tonnes, a decrease of 66,000 tonnes or 33% from January 2015.
The Port of Dampier delivered a total monthly throughput of 12.7Mt, a slight decrease of 1% from the same month in 2015.
Imports totalled 94,000 tonnes, an increase of 22,000 tonnes or 31% from the same month in the previous year. (Media Release)
