On February 8, 2016 Al Nuaman ship arrived with the second cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the commissioning of the LNG terminal in Świnoujście, says Polskie LNG.
The ship delivered 210 thousand cubic meters of liquefied natural gas, which is equivalent to approx. 130 million cubic meters of gaseous fuel. It will be used for further commissioning and tests of installation. Unloading operation will take 3 days.
The fuel is supplied by Qatargas Operating Company Limited. Polish Oil and Gas Company acts as intermediary in the delivery process under the contract with Polskie LNG SA - the recipient of gas assigned for commissioning of the installation. After regasification process, gas will be injected in the national transmission system and distributed to end-users in Poland.
The first delivery of liquefied natural gas for terminal’s commissioning took place on 11 December 2015. The unloading operation lasted 8 days.
The tests of regasification and send-out system using the fuel from the first cargo commenced on January 7, 2016. The volumes of gas received comply with the schedule submitted by the EPC contractor of the LNG terminal. On January 8, 2016, in parallel with transmission of gas to national distribution grid, the operator of the LNG terminal commenced adjustment and tests of various installations, including optimization and stabilization of the regasification process.
Once all tests are completed and the permit for operations is obtained along with acceptance and handover of the LNG plant from the EPC contractor, the infrastructure will be ready to receive commercial supplies.
The LNG terminal in Świnoujście is designed to receive, regasify and supply of up to 5 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year to Polish transmission grid. The plant consists of a new, 3 km long breakwater, a berth with mooring system to accommodate and unload methane carriers of 120 thousand cubic meters (standard vessels) up to 217 thousand cubic meters (Q-flex) in capacity, two cryogenic storage tanks (each of 160 thousand cubic meters in capacity), regasification installations and 85 km long Świnoujście - Szczecin pipeline connecting the terminal with Polish gas transmission system. The LNG terminal in Świnoujście is the only installation of this size in Northern and Central - Eastern Europe.
