Severodvinsk, Russia based Shiprepair Centre ‘Zvezdochka’ (United Shipbuilding Corporation) says it has shipped the first four propeller blades manufactured for the lead nuclear-powered icebreaker of Project 22220 (LK-60) which is under construction at Baltiysky Zavod - Sudostroyeniye.
The propeller blades made of stainless steel comply with the requirements of Icebreaker 9 class. Each blade weighs 10.5. When assembled the propeller will be 60 t with 6.2 m in diameter.
Through smoothly running cooperation between Zvezdochka Center JSC and Baltiysky Zavod - Sudostroyeniye LLC it was possible to considerably reduce time needed for production of the blades and to deliver them to the construction site at the scheduled time”, the statement says.
The propellers intended for the LK-60 are among the ten largest propellers manufactured by Zvezdochka. The largest propellers were made for tankers, Prisco Mizar and Prisco Alcor. Their diameter was 8.1 m.
Ship Repair Center ‘Zvezdochka’ (Severodvinsk, Arkhangelsk Region) specializes in shipbuilding and ship repair, manufacture of propulsive screws. The company is a member of the United Shipbuilding Corporation.
The lead nuclear-powered multi-purpose icebreaker of Project 22220 (LK-60) will be the largest and most powerful icebreaker in the world. Ship's specifications: LOA - 173.3 m, beam - 34 m, draft at DWL- 10.5 m, minimum loaded draft – 8.55 m, displacement - 33.54 tonnes. The icebreaker will be able to lead convoys of vessels in the 3-meter-thick ice of the Arctic seas.
