The Baltic branch of Morspassluzhba of Rosmorrechflot, an emergency marine response and rescue service, responded to an oil spill at Big Port St. Petersburg on May 5, the service press office reported.
The Morspassluzhba HQ was notified on OSR by a senior officer of Environmental Compliance service, Sea Port Authority “Baltic Sea”, who conducted a routine inspection of the water area near the Beliy Island (Novokanonerskaya Harbor) and found a partly sunken tug “Vyuga” and a floating workshop "PM-555". The vessels were surrounded by an 3x3m oil slick.
Morspassluzhba immediately dispatched a team and equipment to respond to the spill and recover oil. The service deployed an offshore diving support boat "Vodolaz Litvin", an oil boom workboat “Arneb” and other oil containment equipment and sorbent. The oil was recovered.
