Morsvyazsputnik discuss partnership with KenCast in expansion of satellite film distribution

Eduard Pichugin, Director General of film production company Lenfilm, has held a working meeting with Director General of FSUE Morsviazsputnik Andrei Kuropyatnikov and representatives of US based telecommunication company KenCast, Morsviazsputnik says in a press release.

The negotiations were focused on the future mutually advantageous cooperation in providing the remote regions of Russia with digital content.

KenCast representatives said they would be glad to cooperate with Russia’s oldest film production company. Russia, as well as China and India, presents a new and exciting market for an American company with its high-technology equipment.

“We are very glad to become a partner of KenCast and to ensure providing of a unique service in Russia with its equipment. It is a significant and mutually beneficial step for our companies”, said Andrei Kuropyatnikov, Director General of FSUE Morsviazsputnik. – “Supported by a professed leadership of an American company in the market of such equipment Morsviazsputnik will expand its distribution and coverage in Russia”.

An agreement on expansion of satellite film distribution was signed by Lenfilm and Morsviazsputnik in 2015. Signal can be supplied not only to the most remote areas of the country but also to all types of land – trains, plains, icebreakers. This will ensure faster and cheaper delivery of films to the cinemas in small towns.

- A film coming out today appears outside of large cities in several months or does not appear there at all, – said Eduard Pichugin. – Yet, we are interested in making our films available for viewers all over the country, even in Tiksi and Anadyr. The USA is a proper example with more than 22,000 screens functioning there – people can regularly go to a cinema even at a remote Texas ranch.

Eduard Pichugin emphasized that satellite distribution will not only let decrease the ticket price but also encourage the construction of cinemas.

In 2016, the management of KenCast, Lenfilm and Morsviazsputnik are also going to hold a working meeting with representatives of some Hollywood major studios who will share their experience in solving the task of spreading the cinema across the country.
