Two berths to be refurbished in Chukotka Port of Pevek

Works are in full swing at the Port of Pevek based on the Chukchi Peninsula. Reconstruction of berthing facilities has been carried out since mid-July. A team of 16 construction workers are now engaged in Berth 2 repair, who have rammed first 30 sheet piles, the Chukotka NA said citing the chief engineer of Sea Commercial Port of Pevek Nikolai Ratnikov. The contract is executed by GASK Ltd.

Overall, the contract includes refurbishment of two berths and the project completion is scheduled for December 2017.
At the beginning of July 2016 the Port of Pevek received the 'porto franco' status.

Maximum draft of approaching channel at the Port of Pevek is 9 meters. The port has four berths, three of them are federal government owned. The berthing facilities reconstruction project will be implemented by Federal enterprise Directorate of State Contracting Authority within the Federal program "Economical and Social Development of the Far East and the Baikal Region for the period untill 2018".

In 2001 freight throughput at Pevek port was 122,000 tonnes and in 2015 – 267,200 tonnes. Port of Pevek is a hub for more than a quarter of all seaborne cargo shipped to Chukotka.
