In January-August 2016, the Freeport of Riga (Latvia) handled 23,872,900 t of cargo (-10.8%, year-on-year). As IAA PortNews was informed by the port authority, coal transshipment fell by 19.2% to 7,963,300 t, oil products – down 18.5% to 5,916,500 t, wood pellets – down 10% to 387,000 t, ore – up 79.4% to 269,100 t.
The Port’s container throughput climbed by 4.7% to 248,359 TEUs.
Passenger turnover increased by 6.1% to 398,236 persons including 59,883 cruise passengers (+6.5%).
Freeport of Riga lies on both banks of the River Daugava covering 6.3 hectares. The port’s berth length is 13,800 meters, maximum draft at the berths is 12.2 meters. Up to 80% of the Freeport of Riga cargo turnover is made up of transit cargoes forwarded to or received from the CIS countries. In 2015, the port’s throughput totaled 40,055,800 t of cargo.
