Port Management Company LLC which controls operation of Russia’s largest coal terminals – Vostochny Port JSC (Vrangel, Primorsky Territory) and Rosterminalugol JSC (Ust-Luga, Leningrad Region) says its throughput totaled 30.9 mln t in January-September 2016.
The statement says that positive dynamics was shown despite the lack of railcars for transportation of coal to the ports seen from the beginning of HII’2016.
The highest growth was registered in shipments of coal to Izrael (2-fold), Japan (by 28.8%) and China (by 9.8%). Among new export directions were Thailand, Vietnam, Chili and Mexico (Vostochny Port) as well as India and Malaysia (Rosterminalugol). From the beginning of the year, coal terminals of Port Management Company have handled 600 vessels including panamax and capsize ships.
In January-September 2016, Vostochny Port handled 17.8 mln t, up 3.1%, year-on-year. In September the terminal loaded 51 vessels with 2.2 mln t of cargo, up 18.6%, year-on-year.
In the 9-month period, Rosterminalugol JSC handled 13.1 mln t of cargo (+1.3%, year-on-year) including 1.85 mln t handled in September (+2.1%, year-on-year). In September the terminal handled 26 vessels and loaded the largest consignment in the company history - 108,872 t of coal.
Port Management Company LLC controls operation of Russia’s largest coal terminals - Vostochny Port JSC (Vrangel, Primorsky Territory) and Rosterminalugol JSC (Ust-Luga, Leningrad Region). In 2015, the terminals’ total throughput exceeded 40 mln t, which is over a third of Russia’s total coal exports by seaborne transport. Coal is shipped to more than 30 countries of Europe, Middle East and Asia-Pacific Region. By 2019, total throughput of the Company’s terminals is to reach 56.5 mt.
Among the coal suppliers of the terminals are major coal mining companies, such as JSC Kuzbassrazrezugol, JSC SUEK, JSC Kuzbass Fuel Company, JSC Russian Coal, JSC Sibuglemet, LLC Promugolservice CJSC Belovskaya Mine, LLC Stepanovsky Razrez, LLC Razrez Bungursky Severny and other Russian coal producers.
Port Management Company was set up in 2008. From 2009 the company controls the operation of Vostochny Port JSC. Over this period, the company’s throughput surged by 58% to 22.8 mln t in 2015. In 2010-2015, the company held optimization of production processes and implemented the programme on modernization of equipment. Port Management Company LLC is currently implementing Vostochny Port’s Phase 3 project, the largest investment project in the ports of Russia’s Far East. New terminal facilities will be put into operation in 2017 allowing for port capacity to reach 39 mln t in 2019. The project is financed exclusively by private investor, without involving any state resources. Rosterminalugol JSC fell under control of Port Management Company in 2016. In 2015 Rosterminalugol handled 17.5 mln t of coal, a record-high result of the company. Port Management Company is currently implementing the project on the development and technical upgrading of the terminal.
