Port of Marseille Fos call for projects for the J1 building and the surrounding area to be launched before summer 2017

Announced by the Chair of the Supervisory Board and the Chair of the Port of Marseille Fos Management Board, the call for long-term projects for the J1 building and the surrounding area will be launched before summer 2017, the company said in its press release.

Jean-Marc Forneri, Chair of the Supervisory Board and Christine Cabau Woehrel, Chair of the Port of Marseille Fos Management Board and its CEO, announced in the press on 6 October 2016 that the call for long-term projects for the J1 building and the surrounding area would be launched before summer 2017.

The call for projects concerns the 3 levels of the J1 to which will be attached the embankments, a quay and a lake south of J1. The call will be conducted in two phases; an initial offer followed by a final offer for the candidates shortlisted in the initial phase. An option relating to the southern part of the offshore breakwater will also be offered to the candidates.

In the building, some spaces will be reserved for the sea, navigation, the port economy as a whole, and new technologies used in maritime trade. For the Port of Marseille Fos it is a question of enhancing its property assets, generating revenue, and promoting the port economy in the heart of the city.

Candidates will be asked to present innovative projects that have a multi activity dimension and international scope for the renovation and improvement of the building, are compatible with port activities, have financial guarantees, and develop attractive port/ city synergies. The site’s port and maritime characteristics should be highlighted to ensure the reach of both Marseille and the Port of Marseille Fos, the number one French port and southern gateway to Europe.

Meanwhile, the Port of Marseille Fos is pursuing the necessary arrangements for transferring the international passenger business, currently handled partly in J1, to Cap Janet.
